Losing weight can be challenging. Even if you exercise and eat right, there is no guarantee that the scales will reflect your hard work and dedication. Here are five reasons why you aren’t losing weight.

You’re Not Drinking Enough Water

Drinking water is an important part of losing weight. Dehydration can appear in several symptoms such as excessive hunger, fatigue, dizziness, rapid heart rate, fever, and headaches. Many articles say that eight ounces is the right amount of water to drink, but everyone is different. The best way to figure out how much water you should drink is to divide your weight in half. That amount that you’re left with is what you’re supposed to drink in ounces every day. It can be hard at first, but it gets easier.

You’re Not Active

Being active is more than just exercising a few days a week. If you truly want to lose more weight and kick start your metabolism, you need to be more active. Since most people have a desk job, being more active is difficult. Try small bouts of exercise at first. Every hour make it a point to stand up and shake off any tension that has built up for a few minutes. Simply getting up and standing will not only make you more active, it will perk up your metabolism.

You’re Eating Too Much

So many diet foods on the market are filled with unhealthy chemicals. If you’re looking to lose weight try eating more protein and cut down on excessive carbohydrates and sugars lurking in your diet. It is also a good idea to keep a food journal. Try to write down everything that goes into your mouth for a week. Seeing everything that you have eaten in black and white can be alarming. After that first week of careful monitoring you can make tweaks to your diet to make it healthier.

You’re Too Stressed

When your body is stressed out, it creates the hormone cortisol. Unusually high levels of cortisol wreaks havoc on your body. This hormone can do more than make you pack on the pounds, increase your blood pressure, and leave you at a higher risk for heart disease. In between your workout sessions try to incorporate meditation and yoga into your daily schedule to lower your stress levels. Once you get your stress in check, your levels of cortisol will go down naturally.

You Have Underlying Health Problems

Have you made healthy changes in your life, but are still not losing any weight? Many health problems make you gain weight such as an underactive thyroid gland. See your physician and talk about your weight loss problems with them. They will want to do tests and maybe even a full physical to determine if you really have a health problem.
